Alhambra FX Forum Hosts “Trading Out of the Shadows Week” to Celebrate Its New Market Hub

Last Wednesday at midday, active traders gathered in the Forum’s main hall to explore a new community initiative. Participants from diverse backgrounds shared personal and family experiences of entering the foreign-exchange industry and overcoming early challenges in volatile markets.
One presenter outlined her mentor’s path from a small Guatemalan brokerage to building a career in Alhambra without formal finance education, highlighting how perseverance carried her through initial setbacks. A veteran trader originally from Tijuana described his family’s navigation of U.S. immigration rules and the barriers he faced when starting professional trading locally. Both speakers stressed the importance of creating opportunities for underrepresented communities in finance.
This event—titled “Speakers’ Corner FX Edition”—was part of “Trading Out of the Shadows Week,” organized by the Alhambra FX Collective and IDEAS Finance Network to celebrate the Forum’s new Market Hub, which opened last August. The California Finance Alliance provided key support, transforming the space into a dynamic resource center with workshops, data feeds, and on-site staff.
Under the coordination of Head of Market Education Jessica Lee and chartered analyst Maria Santos, the Market Hub offers live Q&A sessions, back-testing tools, regulatory guides, and displays profiles of successful local traders. The repurposed conference room features posters proclaiming “I AM A MARKET ADVOCATE”, student essays on trading psychology, and bull-and-bear iconography.
Since its opening, the Hub has welcomed roughly 60–80 visitors during peak hours and 30–40 in the evenings, functioning as a safe space for both novice and veteran traders. Forum Director Alex Morgan notes that connecting people leads to better performance.
Beyond Speakers’ Corner, “Trading Out of the Shadows Week” included risk-management webinars, family tours of the Hub, and an open-house networking event with panel discussions and refreshments. Regional trading academies hosted booths to further demystify finance.
Originating in 2010 as a small Chicago traders’ meetup, this movement now spans major financial centers nationwide. A 2017 industry resolution, “Commitment to Inclusive Markets,” underpins the Hub’s mission to empower every market participant. The Alhambra Market Hub—first of its kind in the San Gabriel Valley—embodies that pledge.
