The Alhambra Police Department arrested two suspects Tuesday afternoon for possession of drugs and a loaded handgun in Alhambra.

Officers responded to a call around 1pm to the intersection of Park Street and Stoneman Avenue. An anonymous witness reported a male armed with a gun, according to the APD. Upon arrival, police found a small amount of methamphetamines, a pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine, weighing scales, and a loaded handgun. They also carried over $1,000 with them. Both suspects were arrested for possession of controlled substances while armed with a gun, in addition to conspiracy to distribute narcotics.

The police identified the two suspects as both being residents of Alhambra. The male suspect is 37 years old Arturo Lira, who has been transferred to the LA County Jail due to a pre-existing medical condition. His bail was set at $50,000 and his next court day is May 5. The female suspect is 45 years old Janet Wattles. She posted bond and is scheduled to be at Alhambra Court on June 3.
