Police released information about the suspected gunman who fatally shot an Alhambra hotel employee early last month.

Police were looking for an adult man of medium build with a height of around 5’6″, said Lt. Joe Mendoza at a Sheriff’s Department press conference. The suspect wore all black, including one dark glove. A surveillance camera outside the hotel showed him fleeing westbound after the shooting.

The suspect fatally wounded Xiuxia “Michelle” Chen on June 2, 2017 during a robbery attempt. She had been working the night shift at the Ambassador Inn’s front desk, where the crime took place.

The Sheriff’s Department released two videos of the suspect, as well as audio of him demanding money from the victim. Officials asked the public to study his movements and voice, and offered a $20,000 reward to anyone with identifying information about him.

The Sheriff also asked for help in identifying a witness who spoke to Chen moments before she was shot. One of the videos showed the woman crossing paths with the suspect and her looking back at him as they passed each other outside the hotel.

Chen’s husband and son described her as a sunny and positive presence who deserved justice. In particular, her son, Armando Escandor Jr. took the opportunity to address the suspect directly.

“Why did you have to go too far?” he asked.

If you have any information about this crime, call the L.A. County Sheriff at (323) 890-5500. If you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
