Man killed in Alhambra shooting

A man was shot to death and Alhambra police are investigating the circumstances of the Sunday night incident in the 600 block of South 6th Street in Alhambra.

Officers arrived at the scene after receiving a 911 call about 11:15 p.m. from a man who said that “someone had broken into his home and that he had shot the intruder,” police said. The identities of those involved have not been released.

Officers at the home encountered the resident, who had placed the 911 call, as well as a man who had been shot in the upper chest. Both men were described as being in their early 20s. Paramedics took the wounded man to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said their initial investigation indicated the man who was wounded forced his way into the home before being shot. Officers found the gun believed to have been used in the shooting and seized it as evidence, according to a statement from Alhambra police.

News media reported that police had responded to the same home perhaps an hour before the shooting after a neighbor reported hearing an argument between a man and a woman, an apparent domestic dispute.

“Officers determined this argument was verbal only. The couple agreed to separate for the night, with the female leaving with a family member,” the police statement said.

No arrests had been made by Monday afternoon, Alhambra police said.
