Alhambra , CA United States

At 5:30 p.m., the Alhambra City Council will present a commendation to Laurel Bear for 38 years of service at the Alhambra Unified School District and for her work bringing mental health services to schools as the Assistant Superintendent of Student and Employee Welfare. Bear retires this year.

The City Council will then hear a presentation on the draft budget for fiscal year 2018-2019 and conduct a public hearing on renewing four public works facilities assessment zones. These assessment districts include renewing taxes imposed on properties in four zones to pay for improvements like the beautification of downtown Alhambra, street repairs and the debt from bonds used to pay for the Alhambra police station. The City Council agenda includes the assessment rates for properties in these zones.

At 7 p.m., the City Council will swear in Councilmember Jeff Maloney as mayor and Councilmember Luis Ayala as vice mayor. Both serve a nine-month term in these positions.
