The City of Alhambra is exploring the installation of multiple level 2 electric vehicle charging stations around town, with funding from a regional partnership designed to reduce air pollution.

Alhambra is eligible to receive $111,980 from California’s Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee to spend on certain projects targeting vehicle emissions reductions, said Marc Castagnola, Alhambra’s director of community development, in an email. Electric vehicle charging stations are a priority project for the MSRC.

The City of Alhambra will work closely with the MSRC and the South Coast Air Quality Management District to study Level 2 electric vehicle charing stations, including how to operate them remotely and use them to collect data, according to the July 23 City Council agenda.

California is moving to safeguard their greenhouse gas emissions rules, as the Trump administration seeks to roll them back. Los Angeles County has some of the worst air pollution in the country.
