Alhambra Source accepting applications for USC Annenberg's Reporter Corps

USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism will be launching a new class of Reporter Corps Alhambra in spring 2014. 

Reporter Corps is a 10-week program at Alhambra Source that provides multi-media training, opportunities for young adults to report on their local community, and investigate issues that matter to them. 

Program Details

Ideal applicants are 18-24 years of age, live or work in Alhambra or surrounding cities, hold a high school diploma, and can commit to a minimum of 10 hours per week. You don't have to have a journalism background — or even want to be a journalist — but you do need to be curious about your community and committed to positively impacting it. Training, mentorship, and a weekly stipend will be offered.

Participants will have the opportunity to be published in Alhambra Source, the education news website Hechinger Report, and broadcast on Southern California Public Radio.

Program begins Feb. 10, 2014.

About Alhambra Source

Alhambra Source is a community news site serving a predominantly Asian and Latino Los Angeles suburb. Building on more than two years of Communication research, it launched in September 2010 with a goal of increasing civic engagement and crossing linguistic and ethnic boundaries. The site now has more than 90 community contributors who speak 10 languages. Alhambra Source is the winner of three Inter-Ethnic Press awards and the subject of a book chapter as well as multiple academic papers.

La Escuela USC Annenberg de Comunicación y Periodismo lanzara una nueva clase de Cuerpo de Reporteros (Reporter Corps) en Alhambra en la primavera del 2014.

El Cuerpo de Reporteros es un programa de 10 semanas en Alhambra Source que provee entrenamiento en varios medios, oportunidades a jóvenes adultos para reportar sobre su comunidad local, e, investigar temas que son de importancia para ellos.

Detalles del Programa

Participantes ideales tendrán de 18-24 años de edad, viven o trabajan en Alhambra o ciudades que le rodean, tienen diploma de escuela secundaria, y pueden comprometerse a un mínimo de 10 horas semanalmente.  No es necesario tener experiencia de periodismo – ni querer ser periodista – pero si es necesario tener curiosidad sobre su comunidad y sentirse obligado a efectuar un impacto positivo en ella.  Entrenamiento, consejería, y compensación semanal serán ofrecidos.

Participantes tendrán oportunidad de ser publicados en Alhambra Source; la página de la red Hechinger Report de noticias educativas; y por radio en Southern California Public Radio.  El programa comienza el 10 de febrero, 2014.
