The Alhambra Police Department assisted in investigating an incident in San Marino yesterday where a man rammed into another vehicle and then set himself on fire.

Alhambra police lent one of their motor officers, said San Marino Police Chief John Incontro. He helped San Marino police reconstruct the details of the car crash.

Alhambra police also sent additional officers to help divert traffic at the crime scene and to help investigate another incident in the area, while San Marino police focused on the crash. In addition, Alhambra police lent their Area C mobile command center to San Marino during the initial investigation.

According to the San Marino Tribune, police believe the suspect rammed his truck into another vehicle intentionally and are currently investigating the incident as an attempted murder. The suspect died as a result of setting himself on fire.

A police department press release said that the suspect was an ex-employee of the resident whose vehicle he rammed. The victim was in the vehicle at the time of the incident and was able to safely drive to the San Marino police station to report it.
