Los Angeles County has the highest number of schools in the state that offer bilingual education starting in kindergarten, according to a new series on the topic from public radio station KPCC. Experts say the growth of dual-language learning in the area is due to Latino parents’ interest in raising their kids bilingual and English-speaking parents wanting their children to master a second language early in life. But many immigrant families still prefer their children study only in English, concerned that learning multiple languages can lower their children's competency later in life.
