San Gabriel Valley elementary school hosts 9/11 fire engine

St. Stephen Martyr School in Monterey Park will host Friday morning FDNY Rescue 5, a vehicle that transported 12 firefighters to the World Trade Center the morning of 9/11. After only one firefighter returned, FDNY 5 was restored and tours the country to educate students and the public on the events and impact of 9/11.

"None of the students at St. Stephen Martyr School were alive when 9/11 occurred," said an email statement from St. Stephen Martyr School. "This will be a great opportunity for them to learn about the event with this in-person exhibit."

The event will start at 9:30 a.m. with a performance of "Amazing Grace" by a firefighter piper from the Orange County Fire Authority Pipes and Drums Band, followed by a prayer service. FDNY 5 will be open to the public from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

St. Stephen Martyr School is located at 119 S. Ramona Ave., Monterey Park, Calif., 91754.
