Rainy weather safety tips from the Alhambra Police Department

The Alhambra Police Department took to Facebook to remind residents to stay safe in the weekend's upcoming rainstorm, which will hit Alhambra and Southern California with steady rain Thursday night through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

"We ask that drivers be cautious in areas most susceptible to flooding, such as the I-10 freeway underpasses at New Avenue, Garfield Avenue, Sixth Street, Atlantic Boulevard, and Fremont Avenue," Alhambra PD posted Wednesday. "With heavy rain predicted in the coming days, please plan a little more time for your travels and slow down accordingly. We want everyone to reach their destinations safely."

Alhambra police also posted a list of ways to prepare homes for heavy rain and prevent flooding. The tips included placing sandbags in low areas around the house, clearing gutters and downpipes of leaves and debris, inspecting large trees for dead branches, lowering water levels in swimming pools, and securing loose outdoor furniture and trash cans.
