Alhambra , CA United States

Herb Klein, a former Nixon aid and editor at the Alhambra Post-Advocate, died at 91 on July 2. In 1940, fresh out of USC with a journalism degree, he took a job at the now-defunct Copley paper. Starting as a lowly copy boy, Klein rose to the top of the company and ultimately served as editor-in-chief of the San Diego-based newspaper chain. He also had a successful political carer, crossing the line on various occasions between editorial and advocacy. In 1946, while serving as news editor at the Post-Advocate, he met Richard Nixon who was running for Congress. Klein would go on serve as the former president’s press secretary and publicist.
