Police detain robbery suspect in Alhambra

A Downey man who is accused of robbing a woman in Alhambra will be at Alhambra Superior Court on Friday for his arraignment hearing, authorities say.

The Alhambra Police Department say the incident happened around 2pm on Wednesday. The male suspect approached a female who was placing her baby into her car at a parking lot outside Asia Supermarket at Ninth Street and Valley Boulevard. The suspect brandished a handgun, which turned out to a realistic looking air-soft gun, and demanded the woman’s purse. He tried to flee the scene afterward. A Monterey Park police officer was driving through the parking lot and detained him. He was turned over to the APD when Alhambra officers arrived.

The Hispanic male suspect has been identified as 25-year-old Gabriel Jesse Acuna from Downey. He is still in custody. His bail has been set at $100,000.
