Pet of the week: Perry from the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society

Alhambra Source partnered with the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society for a weekly column, "Pet of the Week." Every week we'll introduce you to a new animal looking for a home. This week's pet is Perry, a Chihuahua mix. Read more about Perry below!

Name: Perry

ID: 22755

Gender: Male

Breed: Chihuahua mix

Age: 6 years

Weight: 20 pounds

Fur: Brown with white highlights

Perry is a handsome dog who came to the shelter as a stray. Perry is being called a Chihuahua mix, but he is larger and sturdier than most Chihuahuas, so he no doubt is more “mix.” He weighs about 20 pounds and has a short coat of brown fur with white highlights. Perry is estimated to be about 6-years-old.

Perry is friendly with people and seems to enjoy being with other dogs as well. He is an active dog who enjoys going for walks with our volunteers. Perry is also quite playful, and is very interested in fetching and chewing toys.  If he has no one to play with, he will toss a toy into the air and then catch it. He is able to entertain himself, and anyone who is there to watch him. When he has had enough, he will lie down for a rest and use his toy as a pillow.

Perry has recently attended some off-site events and has proven to be a great ambassador for the shelter. He is very polite and gentlemanly when meeting new people.

Perry has demonstrated good jumping and climbing skills, so he needs to have a secure yard to play in.  He needs a daily walk or run to burn off some of his energy, and lots of playtime in a nice shady yard.  Perry is looking for a home with an active family who can give him the exercise and training he needs to live up to his potential of being a great pet. If you have the time and patience to devote to training an active dog, Perry might be just what you are looking for. His adoption fee is $130, which includes neuter surgery, a microchip, first vaccinations and a free wellness check-up at a participating veterinarian.

The San Gabriel Valley Humane Society is located at 851 E. Grand Avenue in San Gabriel.  We are off San Gabriel Blvd, north of Mission and south of Las Tunas Drive.  To arrange a ‘Meet and Greet’ with Perry, please stop by any time from 10:30am to 4:30pm Tuesday through Sunday. See our website at www.sgvhumane.org for information and photos of all our wonderful pets.
