Parent alleges Alhambra Unified special ed teacher molested her daughter

A minor and her mother, Yolanda Romera, are suing the Alhambra Unified School District for failing to properly hire or supervise special education teacher Jose Jesus Mosqueda, the Pasadena Star-News reports. Romera alleges that Mosqueda molested her daughter, who has been diagnosed with mild mental retardation, in 2011 while she was a student at Repetto Elementary School in Monterey Park.

Mosqueda, 44, was arrested in December 2011 and faces felony charges for the alleged sexual abuse of three girls under the age of 14, according to the Star-News.

Superintendent Laura Tellez-Gagliano told the Star-News Mosqueda passed all state-mandated background checks, including FBI and U.S. Department of Justice fingerprinting and reference checks.

This is the third case this year of sexual abuse allegations involving AUSD employees. Garfield Elementary School math teacher Jeffrey Yoshitake was arrested Feb. 28 on suspicion of one felony count of lewd acts with a child, while Andrea Cardosa, an assistant principal at Alhambra High School, was charged Feb. 3 with 16 felony counts of sexual assaults and lewd acts on a child.

Glad to see this article, which should raise awareness about molestation of innocent children. But, I don’t believe you can count Andrea Cardosa’s actions along with the others because her offenses occurred years ago in another district. We are lucky that one victim came forward and exposed her before she had been an AUSD official for more than a few months, however.
