On the agenda: Interim fire battalion chief and 45-day moratorium on new massage parlors

Alhambra City Council will vote Monday on appointing Robert Patterson interim fire battalion chief. Following the resignation of former chief John Cermak on Dec. 9, City Manager Mary Swink hired Patterson through the end of January. City Council will vote on extending his contract through June while city staff search for a fulltime replacement. Patterson served over 33 years as a fire authority in Orange County and retired in April 2014, according to Monday’s agenda

Council will also vote on stopping new massage parlors from opening in Alhambra and preventing current ones from relocating for the next 45 days. Assembly Bill 1147, effective Jan. 1, established a board of directors to advise the California Massage Therapy Council and gave more regulatory authority to local government. City staff intend to use the 45-day moratorium to ensure Alhambra’s regulation laws for massage parlors coincide with AB 1147, according to the City Council agenda.

Monday's agenda includes detailed documents and reports for several items, including staff signatures, discussion notes, and analyses. They are available for viewing in the document below.

City Council usually meets every second and fourth Monday of the month at 5:30 and 7 p.m. at City Hall. Read the complete agenda below. You can also download the document or make it larger using the controls on the bottom.
