On the Agenda: City Council to name new mayor

Alhambra City Council will name a new mayor and vice-mayor on Monday evening. Current Mayor Stephen Sham will pass the title to Vice Mayor and Councilman Gary Yamauchi. Councilman Luis Ayala will replace Yamauchi as vice mayor.

Alhambra rotates mayors among the council on a nine-month schedule. Mayor Sham was appointed mayor in November 2013. Each council member serves a city department. These responsibilities are also rotated every nine months. The mayor acts as the councilperson to public affairs and the vice-mayor serves as the council person to the department of finance. Councilmembers Messina, Placido and Sham will serve as the council persons to departments of public works, public safety, and supplies, respectively.

A reception at the library patio will follow immediately after the ceremony.

City Council meets every second and fourth Monday of the month at 5:30 and 7 p.m. at City Hall. Read the complete agenda below. You can also download the document or make it larger using the controls on the bottom.
