Objects in mirror are smaller than they appear

[email protected] are portraits of the City of Alhambra and the people who go about their lives here.

The photo: A simple reflection can say a lot about a photographer. Ivy Chiu took this photo on July 4th, as the Alhambra sky was lit with fireworks and smoke. Chiu’s parents recently moved to the city from Houston, Texas and she just so happened to have a new camera.

“Amid the festivities, I took the picture because, in that instant, I realized how small and alone I was in the grand scheme of things, yet how strong and capable I often try to appear,” said Chiu.

She adds that her image is titled Objects in mirror are smaller than they appear, because it's her passive-aggresive plea to those in her life to take her as she is – "weak, fragile and at all times human."

The photographer: Ivy Chiu is currently studying Radio/Television/Film at the University of Texas in Austin. She considers herself a recreational photographer, with a knack for street shots and candid moments. We found Ivy Chiu's image via her Flickr feed.
