The Los Angeles County Community Development Commission Housing Authority will move into its new building this month on Atlantic Boulevard and Main Street, where Edwards Theater once stood. The new facility, called The Gateway at Alhambra, puts CDC's housing, economic development, and construction arms into one place and will include almost 500 county workers, the Pasadena Star-News reports.
Alhambra Mayor Barbara Messina told the Star-News that the influx of county employees will support Downtown Alhambra businesses. "I think it's going to be good for our economy," Messina said. "You have all those people and they have to eat so hopefully they are going to come to our restaurants and use our services here. I'm excited about it."
Employees will begin moving in on Nov. 26 and the building will be open to the public after the holidays, Doug Cohen, head of real estate acquisitions at the CDC, told the Star-News.
