Longtime Monterey Park resident Rita Miller — known in City Hall as "Monterey Park's mom" — retired in November after more than a decade of volunteering for the city, World Journal (世界日报) reports. The 80-year-old worked at the Monterey Park City Hall information desk and left her position due to illness.
Miller helped City Hall visitors find departments and offices in the building. She also attended Monterey Park City Council meetings frequently and shared her opinion on the city’s operation.
Monterey Park City Council honored Miller in May for her contribution to the community and gave her a certificate of merit. "Rita is like a mother who takes care of the community," Monterey Park Mayor Teresa Real Sebastian said.
According to Monterey Park city staff, a computer will replace Miller at the information desk.
