Monterey Park strip mall engulfed in flames

A fire raged through several businesses at a strip mall on Wednesday in Monterey Park.

The Monterey Park Fire Department responded to the 600 block of W. Garvey at 7:41am for a commercial structure fire. The blaze spewed heavy smoke from the roof of the mall, and damaged parts of a nearby power line.

As the blaze became more aggressive, fire departments issued a fourth alarm. Firefighters from Alhambra, Montebello and other areas responded to the fire and assisted the Monterey Park department for several hours.

The blaze caused severe damages to several businesses. The estimated total in damages is around $3,000,000. No business owners or employees were injured during the attack. Three firefighters received minor injuries and were transported to local hospitals for continued observation, according to the Monterey Park Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
