Monterey Park City Council unanimously approved a resolution this week to support the 710 Freeway extension, the Pasadena Star-News reports. Monterey Park joins Alhambra and San Marino in support of the 4.5-mile extension between the I-10 and the I-210.
The Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority is studying five alternatives to extend the 710: a "no build" solution, light rail, bus, traffic management systems and a tunnel.
Monterey Park Mayor Mitchell Ing said he hopes the cities that oppose the freeway, such as Los Angeles, Glendale, Pasadena, and La Canada Flintridge, change their minds. "The 710 freeway was never meant to end in the city of Alhambra, … and obviously it has a negative impact," Ing told the Star-News. "For those cities opposed, I hope they realize … that for us to try to stop progress is a disservice to the community."
