Longtime councilmemeber Barbara Messina will be sworn in Monday as the new mayor of Alhambra. This appointment is part of Alhambra’s rotating mayoral system, in which a mayor serves for nine months. Luis Ayala is the outgoing mayor. Fellow councilmember Steven Placido will become vice mayor.
Council will also initiate the process to hold the general election in November. Council seats for the third and forth district (currently held by Gary Yamauchi and Placido, respectively) will be elected on November 8. Three seats on the Board of Education for the Alhambra Unified School District will also be elected.
Council is also expected to authorize the Fourth of July fireworks show at Almansor Park. A fireworks provider will be contracted for the event.
City Council usually meets every second and fourth Monday of the month at 5:30 and 7 p.m. at City Hall. Read the complete agenda below. You can also download the document or make it larger using the controls on the bottom.
