Meet Pixie at the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society

Alhambra Source partnered with the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society for a weekly column, "Pet of the Week." Every week we'll introduce you to a new animal looking for a home. This week's pet is Pixie, a Dachshund-Chihuahua mix. Read more about Pixie below!

ID: 21288
Gender: Female
Breed: Dachshund-Chihuahua mix
Age: 3 years old
Weight: 13 pounds
Fur: Black/White/Brown

Pixie is sweet girl that came to the shelter as a stray dog from Rosemead. Although initially shy and cautious when she arrived at the shelter, she is adjusting well and opening herself up to trusting new people. Pixie has become a very friendly girl and she is eager to receive pets and attention. She has a charming gesture of standing on her hind legs and pawing the air with her front paws, as if she is begging for some treats or attention.

Pixie is easy to harness and handle on the leash, but seems uncomfortable around the street near traffic, which may stem from her time as a stray dog.  She does enjoy sniffing and exploring the grass and trees, and seems to love the outdoors. She gets more courage from walking with other dogs, and will become more sure of herself as she has more exposure to new experiences.

Pixie has shown a playful side to her personality and enjoys playing with toys, shaking them vigorously while her tail wags non-stop. She also likes playing with other dogs in the shelter play yard or on a walk.

Pixie is a lovely girl who needs a secure and loving home to help her become more confident.  Her family will need to be patient with her to let her adjust at her own pace, but she is sure to be a treasured member of the family for many years to come. Come in to meet sweet Pixie and see if her charm doesn’t touch your heart.

Her adoption fee is $130 and includes spay surgery, vaccinations, microchip and a free wellness exam at a participating veterinarian. Feel free to call us at (626) 286-1159 for more information on Pixie. The San Gabriel Valley Humane Society is located at 851 E. Grand Avenue in San Gabriel. We are off San Gabriel Blvd, north of Mission and south of Las Tunas Drive. To arrange a “Meet and Greet” with Pixie, please stop by any time from 10:30am to 4:30pm Tuesday through Sunday. See our website at www.sgvhumane.org for information and photos of all our wonderful pets.

Join us on Sunday, March 13th from noon to 3pm in Sierra Madre for the Wistaria Festival. It will be at the intersection of Sierra Madre Blvd and Baldwin Avenue. We will be there with some of our adorable pets who are looking for their forever homes. Stop by our table in the park and say Hello!
