Meet Donnie, Chihuahua and miniature pinscher mix

Alhambra Source partnered with the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society for our new weekly column, "Pet of the Week." Every Thursday, we'll introduce you to a new animal looking for a home. This week's rescue is Donnie, a male Chihuahua and miniature pinscher mix. Read more about him below!

Name: Donnie ID: 7990Gender: MaleBreed: Chihuahua and miniature pinscher mixAge: 4 years Weight: 11 poundsFur: Short, chocolate brown with tan highlights

Donnie arrived at the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society in December 2013. He was timid at first, but as he adjusted to the shelter environment, he showed us what a loving, friendly dog he is.

He loves to sit on a lap and get lots of pets and cuddles. He also enjoys his walks. When he gets moving, he has a very unique gait, almost like a horse with his front legs straight out, moving very quickly. He is always very joyful to be out in the fresh air getting some exercise.

He has had a few different kennel mates and seems to get along with all of them, although he prefers the company of people to other dogs. Donnie would probably do best in a home where he is the only dog, because he enjoys having the attention and affection centered on him.

Donnie's adoption fee is $120, which includes his neuter surgery, a microchip, first vaccinations, and a free wellness checkup with a participating veterinarian.

If you are interested in meeting Donnie or any of the other available animals at the shelter, visit the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society at 851 E. Grand Ave., San Gabriel, Calif., 91776. It is open 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. For more information, call (626) 286-1159.
