Meet Darby at the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society

Alhambra Source partnered with the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society for a weekly column, "Pet of the Week." Every Thursday, we'll introduce you to a new animal looking for a home. This week's pet is Darby, a Chihuahua mix. Read more about Darby below!
Name: Darby
ID: 20020
Gender: Female
Breed: Chihuahua mix
Age: 3 year
Weight: 16 pounds
Fur: Reddish brown fur
Darby is a lovely 3-year-old Chihuahua mix girl who was surrendered when her owners moved out of the country and could not take her along. She has a beautiful coat of short reddish brown fur with white highlights. Darby is a small dog, but has a sturdy body at over 16 pounds.
Darby can best be described as a “people person.” You will find her at the gate to her kennel, smiling and greeting all who walk by. She enjoys getting attention and is very friendly with everyone she has contact with. She loves getting pets and belly rubs, and will happily give kisses in return.
Darby seems to prefer the company of humans to that of other dogs, but she gets along fine with her kennel mate, and has even been known to exhibit playful behavior.
Darby loves going for walks, and is easy to harness. She appears to have had some experience walking on a leash before. She walks at a good pace without pulling. Volunteers report that she is a delightful walking companion. Darby is alert to her surroundings and appears to be a very smart girl.
Darby is no doubt missing the family life she used to have before her owners surrendered her, and would be so grateful to find another home where she has love and security. Darby deserves a home for the holidays. Do you have room in your heart for this sweet girl?
Her adoption fee is $130 and includes spay surgery, vaccinations, microchip and a free wellness exam at a participating veterinarian. Feel free to call us at (626) 286-1159 for more information on Darby. If you are interested in meeting Darby or any of the other wonderful pets at the shelter, visit the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society at 851 E. Grand Ave., San Gabriel, Tuesday through Sunday from 10:30am to 4:30pm. See our website at www.sgvhumane.org for information and photos of all our wonderful pets.
Shelter supporters are encouraged to visit the website to read the amazing story of Hoppy told by his rescuer in his blog. This three-legged Chihuahua now has a second chance for a happy life after a terrible accident left him alone and helpless trying to survive on the busy city streets.
To celebrate the “25 Days of Xmas,” all cats are available for the special adoption fee of $25 that includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchip, and a free wellness exam at a participating veterinarian.
2016 calendars are available at the shelter for a $10 donation. The photos were selected among hundreds submitted by shelter supporters. They make great holiday gifts for the animal lovers on your list! If you would like to order a 2016 calendar on line, you can stop by the shelter or do so through Paypal. Go to the shelter website at sgvhumane.org for more information.
