Mark Keppel to honor senior who fell to her death Friday while hiking

Mark Keppel High School will hold a memorial service Monday afternoon for senior Esther Suen, ABC Local reports. Suen died Friday from a head injury after falling at Eaton Canyon during a spring break hiking trip. The 17-year-old senior fell 200 feet from a cliff. Three additional hikers, one of whom was injured, were rescued. The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department sent out warnings this weekend that there is no safe trail to the second waterfall at Eaton Canyon.

Suen was on her high school diving team and an avid hiker, according to ABC Local: "Suen's friends and family described her as a remarkable young woman, a leader, a scholar and an athlete."

The 3 p.m. service will be held outside the school's auditorium, and all sport events and practices have been canceled.
