Vendors who experienced financial losses due to the early cancellation of the Monterey Park Chinese New Year Festival are blaming Chinese American officials for not speaking out for them. As a Monterey Park-based business owner himself, Councilman Anthony Wong cannot participate in any discussion or decision making regarding the Chinese New Year Festival, according to city officials. Another Chinese American official, Monterey Park's Deputy Mayor, David Lau, responded by saying that there is a misunderstanding on the vendors' side. Lau told the World Journal that he met with pastor Jimmy Tam last week and has been actively searching for more information in order to reach a comprehensive conclusion.
