Cal State LA program lets students skip high school, go straight to college

Cal State LA's Early Entrance Program (EEP) allows students to bypass high school and enter college. This year's graduates, 23 students in total, ranged from 17 to 21 in age. The program is the only one of its kind in California, according to program director Richard Maddox.

Explaining the aim of EEP, Maddox said it accomodates gifted students who feel that high school studies are not rigorous enough. "High school – it bores gifted students," Maddox said. "We don't want to lose that wonderful brain trust."
