Alhambra may move city workers to utilities department

Alhambra city officials may move seven full-time and two-and-a-half part time employees to the utilities department to save $704,000 in general funds. Under the utilities department, the employees will be paid through the water fund. The employees involved include a code enforcement manager and two park workers.

The proposal was announced at Tuesday's council meeting, where the budget for the 2011-2012 fiscal year was discussed. The move is part of the city's attempt to work out a balanced budget as operation costs for the next fiscal year are expected to rise.
