Fugitive sentenced for Alhambra burglary located, pleads not guilty to escaping jail

A fugitive sentenced for stealing laptops from an Alhambra medical center was found last week and pleaded not guilty on Monday to escaping from jail.

Christopher Lee Brown walked out of the Twin Towers Correctional Facility on March 12 after being sentenced for stealing two laptops from an AHMC Healthcare office in Alhambra. A citizen spotted the 37-year-old on April 2 near Pico and Lincoln boulevards in Santa Monica and police arrested Brown without incident, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Brown pleaded not guilty on Monday to escaping from jail at Los Angeles Superior Court, the Pasadena Star-News reports. He is next due in court on April 17 for a preliminary hearing.
The Alhambra Police Department arrested Brown in October for the burglary — which compromised the identity, financial, and credit information of 729,000 patients — at a homeless encampment on Valley Boulevard near the 710 Freeway. The laptops were not in his possession at the time of his arrest.
