Jazz Nights! Free Outdoor Concert with The Yuko Mabuchi Trio & guests

Date

Location

San Gabriel Mission Playhouse

320 South Mission Drive
San Gabriel , California 91776 United States

Visit the Mission Playhouse July 26th at 6:30pm for our third free Jazz Nights series concert featuring the Yuko Mabuchi Trio (Yuko Mabuchi-piano, Del Atkins- bass, Bobby Breton-drums) with special guests Robert Kyle on sax and Billy Mitchell on keys.

Born in Fukui, Japan, Yuko began playing the piano at the age of 4. As a teenager, she fell in love with jazz after hearing the music of Oscar Peterson and Herbie Hancock. After high school, she studied jazz piano at a conservatory in Kyoto. She then came to LA, studied at a local music academy, and returned to Japan where she played at jazz venues and festivals throughout the country.

Since moving to the US in 2016, Yuko has performed at venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall. A composer as well as a pianist, she’s released 3 records, the most recent being ‘The Yuko Mabuchi Trio’ that came out this past year. Grammy Award winning conductor and producer Peter Rutenberg stated “ The trio exhibits consummate musicality and technique, with artful phrasing led by the pianist, a lyrical sensuousness in the bassist’s melodic counterpoints with the piano, and the drummer’s intelligent vocabulary and broad sweep tying it all together.” LA Jazz Scene’s Scott Yanow wrote “Yuko Mabuchi lets loose with stunning runs, showing that she has very impressive technique…her trio album shows that Yuko is long on her way towards becoming a significant jazz pianist.”

Parking is free. We provide fold up chairs (first come, first served). You can bring your own chair if you’d like.

Jazz Nights concludes on August 23rd with Kiki Ebsen and the Jeff Colella Quartet. All free concerts begin at 6:30pm.

Jazz Nights are a part of San Gabriel’s Summer Nights series and the Mission Playhouse Community Engagement program, Engage! Learn more by calling (626) 308-2865 or visiting www.missionplayhouse.org.
