Visit the Mission Playhouse June 21st at 6:30pm to enjoy the first of four talented and entertaining ensembles who bring Jazz Nights to the Playhouse from June through August!
Kicking off the Mission Playhouse’s 2nd Annual Jazz series is the Elliott Caine Quintet with a night of Bepop, Boogaloo, and Latin Jazz. The Quintet is influenced by artists from Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers to Tito Puente and Mongo Santamaria.
Latin Beat Magazine describes Elliott Caine as “one of the West Coast’s finest trumpeters.” Cadence Magazine describes him “as a fire-breathing trumpeter in the lineage of Freddie Hubbard and Lee Morgan and his band is just as sharp.” Elliott has performed and/or recorded with Teddy Edwards, Barbara Morrison, Wyclef Jean, Beck, The Beastie Boys, and numerous others. His original compositions have been heard on programs including The Oprah Winfrey Show and Late Night with David Letterman.
Joining Elliott are Scott Gilman (tenor sax), Rick Olson (piano), Trevor Ware (bass), and Kenny Elliott (drums).
Jazz Nights continues on July 5th with Louie Cruz Beltran & his Jazz Ensemble, July 26th with The Yuko Mabuchi Trio and special guests Robert Kyle and Billy Mitchell, and concludes on August 23rd with Kiki Ebsen and the Jeff Colella Quartet. All concerts begin at 6:30pm. Parking is free.
Jazz Nights are a part of San Gabriel’s Summer Nights series and the Mission Playhouse Community Engagement program, Engage! Learn more by calling (626) 308-2865 or visiting www.missionplayhouse.org.
