Family Preparedness Workshop

Asian Youth Center

Alhambra , CA United States

Families in Los Angeles County today can face a whole range of obstacles, including emergencies that may take parents out of the country and make them temporarily unable to care for their children. Children can be left without any person having the legal authority to enroll them in school or authorize medical treatment.
The Family Preparedness Workshop offers parents the opportunity to learn about the practical steps and tools necessary to provide for their children’s care and safety, should parents face an emergency that makes them temporarily unable to care for their children. Topics include:
• Making a plan of action for the care of their children
• How caregivers can enroll a child in school and authorize medical treatment
• The different rights and responsibilities of formal vs. informal caregivers
• Probate Legal Guardianship as an option for caregivers
In addition, parents can have one-on-one consultations with attorney volunteers to draft Caregiver Affidavits and even nominate a guardian.
