Join us in the beautiful, historic Mission Playhouse for a celebration of stories from our community told in words, action and song. This evening’s show includes:
A tribute to March Fong Eu, five-time California Secretary of State, in the presence of the late Ms Eu’s special assistant Linda Sun.
Community Stories brought to life on the stage in dramatic interpretations directed by Ray Rochelle (Managing Director, San Gabriel Valley Music Theatre) and John Miyasaki (Artistic Director, Here and Now Theatre Company).
Marilyn Tokuda, East West Player’s first Education Director, a post she held for 14 years, will direct the one-act play Tam Tram goes to Washington by Elizabeth Wong. This funny and touching play tells the true story of Tam Tran, a Vietnamese refugee who spoke before Congress in 2010 in support of the DREAM act.
Audiences may know Ms. Tokuda from her many stage and screen appearances including Sweeney Todd in the role of Mrs. Lovett, Follies, The Theory of Everything, Hanako, and Woman From the Other Side of the World for East West Players. She has also appeared in numerous television shows including Grey’s Anatomy, Frasier,Friends, Seinfeld, Magnum P.I. and JAG. Films include: Farewell to the King, Strawberry Fields and Xanadu.
The evening will include performances from talented young performers from the Perfect Harmony Cultural Exchange Association as they present a medley of extracts from famous Cantonese Opera’s such as the Peony Pavilion, the Purple Hairpin and Princess Cheung Ping, to name a few.
A varied of evening and a delightful way to celebrate our community, closing the Festival with a colorful celebration!
