The Alhambra Police Department will be conducting a DUI checkpoint on the intersection of Garfield Ave and Linda Vista Ave. The checkpoint will run from 7pm Friday to 3am Saturday.
In a press release the APD explained that the “deterrent effect of DUI checkpoints is a proven resource in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes.”
In Alhambra there have been 76 DUI-related collisions and one fatality in the past three years, said Sergeant Joseph Mallette of the APD.
In California it is illegal for a driver to operate a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of 0.08% or higher. A DUI arrest can lead to jail time, fines, DUI classes, other expenses that can exceed $10,000, according to the press release.
