Counseling center serving Chinese students opens in east San Gabriel Valley

The first psychological counseling center focusing on Chinese students in the east San Gabriel Valley opened on April 23 in Diamond Bar, World Journal (世界日报) reports.

The center aims to satisfy the needs of Asian students in the Diamond Bar and Walnut school districts, particularly Asian immigrants. Cindy Fu, a counselor at Walnut Unified School District, told World Journal that Chinese students in the area usually face fierce academic competition and pressure from parents, which causes them to suffer from depression, attention deficit disorder, or other psychological problems. The school counseling centers usually cannot meet the needs of all the students due to high demand, Fu said, and the new psychological center will provide assistance to better serve Chinese families.
