Council to give commendations, vote on landscape ordinance

City council will commend on Monday a number of local residents who have made strides in their respective endeavors.

The honorees include police officers Rick Rivera, Lou Scalera, and Bill Clark of the Alhambra Police Department. Alhambra High School graduate Karina Meza, who currently plays soccer for Southern Vermont College, will be commended for being named “Player of the Week” by the New England Collegiate Conference. Winners of the City’s “2015 Holiday Home Decorating Contest” will also be recognized at the meeting. The winners showed “their sense of community and their holiday spirit” through their Christmas lawn decorations, according to City documents. Members of the Alhambra Youth Flag Football All Star Team will also be commended for winning the championship in the 2015 Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation Tournament.

The council will also vote on a second reading of a landscape ordinance. The ordinance is recommended by the State to push forward more water-use regulations. It will provide guidelines on the materials used on front lawns and other landscaping projects.

City staff will present an update to the City’s strategic plan as well.

City Council usually meets every second and fourth Monday of the month at 5:30 and 7 p.m. at City Hall. Read the complete agenda below. You can also download the document or make it larger using the controls on the bottom.
