Council approves affordable housing funds

Alhambra City Council approved Monday the Annual Action Plan for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Home Investment Partnership Program (HOME) funding for the 2014-15 fiscal year. These federal grants administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Development (HUD) are awarded to local governments to ensure the availability of decent and affordable housing for low-income residents.

The city will receive $777,301 in CDBG funds and $367,228 in HOME funds.

Deputy City Manager Jessica Keating explained that the grants will be used to fund community development programs such as housing rehabilitation, first-time homebuyer assistance as well as senior services and street reconstruction projects including handicap ramps.

"We will be funding all of the programs at the same funding level," Keating said.
