City to appoint interim fire chief, review mosquito control methods

City Council is expected to appoint Tom Phelps, currently the Assistant Chief of the Alhambra Fire Department, to the position of Fire Chief. Bill Walker, who has served as Fire Chief for five years in Alhambra, has tended his resignation and will vacate his position on April 29.
The city will also review a presentation from the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District. The health agency will talk about how they educate residents on methods of deterring growth in the mosquito population.
The city council meeting will also have two public hearings,  including one ordinances that will amend Alhambra’s policy on massage parlors. The amendments will create “an efficient licensing and permitting scheme,” according to city documents. Another public hearing will focus on adjusting fees for certain city services. The city had adopted, in the past, resolutions that adjust city fees according to the consumer price index (CPI). City staff has determined that some fee increases have exceeded the CPI.
City Council usually meets every second and fourth Monday of the month at 5:30 and 7 p.m. at City Hall. Read the complete agenda below. You can also download the document or make it larger using the controls on the bottom.
