Chinese-owned tourism buses fined for regulation violations in San Gabriel

The California Highway Patrol fined 22 private tour buses in San Gabriel for regulation violations during a Sept. 25 inspection, China Press(侨报) reports. San Gabriel city staff requested the bus inspection at Valley and San Gabriel boulevards due to recent tour bus accidents.

Sixteen of the buses fined were Chinese-owned tourism buses, according to the CHP. Major violations included safety issues related to mechanics. Sgt. Rene Hernandez of the San Gabriel Police Department told the China Press that many Chinese tour companies picked up the tourists at the parking lot in front of Shun Fat Supermarket on Valley and San Gabriel. Some tourists then crossed the street without obeying traffic rules.

San Gabriel plans to carry out a series of traffic regulation operations again on Oct. 15.
