Alhambra Student Wins Scholarship Award

Jose Espinosa-Flores, a recent graduate of Everest College – Alhambra, has been chosen as the college’s 2011 Dream Award scholarship winner. The annual award acknowledges one graduate who has completed a post-secondary education while overcoming extraordinary challenges.

As a Dream Award winner, Espinosa-Flores receives a $2,500 Everest scholarship to pursue advanced programs in his field of study.

Espinosa-Flores’ road to graduation was not easy.  His family struggled with living expenses, moving from home to home. He worked odd jobs at night to support his mother and siblings, and briefly attended community college. For Espinosa-Flores, a career as a medical assistant seemed out of reach.

However, the 21-year-old Espinosa-Flores managed to overcome those personal challenges and reach his academic goals. He earned his medical assistant diploma and began a new career at  Atlantis Healthcare Management.

“Jose faced a number of obstacles on his way to graduation and we are so proud to have helped him achieve his goals,” said Trung Tran, president of Alhambra’s Everest College.
