Alhambra Police Department to host Coffee with a Cop on Wednesday, September 28th

Location

Alhambra , CA United States

On Wednesday, September 28, 2016, officers from the Alhambra Police Department and local community members will come together at an informal gathering to discuss community issues, build relationships, and drink coffee.

All community members are invited to attend. The event will be held between 7:00am and 10:00am at the IHOP Restaurant, 701 South Fremont, Alhambra, Ca. Coffee with a Cop provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the department’s work in Alhambra’s neighborhoods.

The majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies, or emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community, and some community members may feel that officers are unapproachable on the street. Coffeewith a Cop breaks down barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one interaction.

“We are looking forward to getting to know our community members better in this relaxed environment, said Jackie Gomez-Whiteley, Chief of Police for the Alhambra Police Department. “We thank IHOP for their leadership in facilitating this effort. We hope folks will visit and share their questions and concerns so that we may continually enhance our level of service.  Community partnerships are the cornerstone of the Alhambra Police Department and we want you to get to know us better, too.  I look forward to meeting you onSeptember 28.”

Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by The United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are being held across the county, as local police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.

The program aims to advance the practice of community policing through improving relationships between police officers and community members one cup of coffee at a time.
