The unemployment rate of Alhambra, 10.3% in October, is the highest of surrounding SGV cities, but lower than state and county averages, according to Sing Tao Daily.

California's unemployment rate, the second highest in the nation after Nevada, dropped to 11.7% in October.

Los Angeles County's rate was 11.9%.

Of 10 San Gabriel Valley cities that Sing Tao Daily looked at, Alhambra had the highest unemployement rate, as well as the largest workforce.

Alhambra's neighbors were smaller, but also had a smaller percentage of unemployed: 9.8% in San Gabriel, 9.0% in Monterey Park, 6.8% in Arcadia, 6.5% in Cerritos, and 5.4% in San Marino.

The California Employment Development Department (EDD) announced the monthly unemployment rate, which is derived from a federal survey of 5,500 California households.
