Alhambra's biggest policing issue / El mayor problema policial en Alhambra /

Alhambra Source and the Alhambra Police Department are launching an initiative to engage more minority residents in the community. As part of this new project, we're re-launching our "Ask an Alhambra cop" column with Sgt. Jerry Johnson. Got a question? Submit it below or send it to [email protected]!

What does the Alhambra Police Department consider the most significant local policing issue?

Our most significant local policing issue is maintaining our historically low crime levels — crime rates have continually gone down over the last decade — while at the same time maintaining quality of life. This is truly a challenge when we consider that crime cannot be completely eliminated.

Part of the challenge we have is engaging the community to be a part of crime prevention by being good witnesses and good citizens, reporting suspicious activity, and taking protective measures to keep themselves and others from being victims. That being said, we have seen a significant increase in robberies and a slight increase in residential burglaries, to which we are paying attention. Additionally, we are paying close attention to recent parolees released from prison, along with those that are under the supervision of county probation officers.

Policing issues are very complex and can change frequently. We do our best to adapt to the ever-changing priorities.

  1. Alh Chinese resident

I can’t believe the Chinese title of this story: 最大的問題在阿罕布拉警方 — The biggest problem is Alhambra Police! So, there are many problems: crime, traffic, graffiti, … but the biggest one is the police! That implies the police may be corrupt, incompetent, shorthanded, … “Alhambra’s biggest policing issue” can be translated as either 阿罕布拉市最大的執法問题 or 阿罕布拉市最大的治安問题.

    1. Thanks for your note — we've corrected the title. We appreciate your help in making our site as accurate as possible. Please let us know if you're interested in helping us translate more stories into Chinese! -Nasrin Aboulhosn, Managing Editor

  2. Good to read that Alhambra’s crime rate is relatively low and hopefully Alhambra Police department continues trying to maintain it at its low level
