Alhambra resident and Pearl Harbor survivor dies

Alhambra resident and community volunteer Jesus “Joe” Soto died on July 12 at the age of 93, the Pasadena Star-News is reporting.  Marian Last, the manager for community and senior services for the El Monte Senior Center where Soto was a volunteer told the Star-News that Soto was “a warm, very gentle man, who had a passion and patriotism for this country.”

Soto was born in El Paso, Texas on June 7, 1918 and moved to Los Angeles at the age of 4.  In 1940, Soto joined the U.S. Marine Corps was stationed on the USS New Orleans and survived the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, according to the Pasadena Star-News.
