Alhambra police investigating suspected gang homicide

A man was fatally shot in Alhambra early in the hours of Saturday morning, in what police believe may have been a gang-related homicide, the LA Times and San Gabriel Valley Tribune are reporting.

El Sereno resident Leopoldo Anaya, 19, died of a single gunshot wound to the chest, Alhambra Police Sgt. Joe Flannagan told the Los Angeles Times.

“We’re thinking it’s a gang-related shooting; it appears to be a car-to-car drive-by,” Flannagan told the Times.

The homicide occured near the El Sereno border around Winchester and Concord avenues following a Halloween party. Police believe that shots were exchanged between a black Honda Sedan and the Ford Expolorer where Anaya was seated. Friends drove Anaya to Los Angeles/ USC Medical Center where he died.

This is the first homicide of the year in Alhambra.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call Alhambra investigators at (626) 308-4844. Messages can be left anonymously, according to the Star-News.
