Alhambra police holiday policies: parking enforcement relaxed over Memorial Day weekend; DUI check Saturday

The Alhambra Police Department will relax parking enforcement over Memorial Day weekend, the agency posted Tuesday on FacebookOvernight parking, parking lot, and street sweeping enforcement will be suspended beginning Saturday, May 25 through Monday, May 27. It will resume on Tuesday, May 28 at 2 a.m.

Alhambra police will however be conducting sobriety tests and driver's license checks from Saturday night to early Sunday near Garfield and Linda Vista avenues. Starting at 8 p.m. and ending at 3 a.m., Alhambra PD — joined by California Highway Patrol and police departments from Bell Gardens, Monterey Park, Montebello, and San Gabriel — will be stopping all vehicles driving through the checkpoint and any driver under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be arrested.

"All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by impaired drivers," the Alhambra Police Department wrote in a press release Tuesday. "This sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint is an effort to reduce those tragedies."
