Alhambra melts in triple digit heat

With triple digit temperatures Wednesday, Alhambra residents and workers coped with the heat in diverse ways from the old woman walking with her umbrella and muttering how hot it was to droves of customers enjoying ice blended drinks along Freemont Avenue to athletes who just ignored it and ran through Almansor Park.

Alhambra's Main Street was virtually empty and young and  old took to the library to get away from the scorching heat. “Usually the library is crowded after school but there are extra people because of the heat,” young adult librarian Adriana Mendoza said.

According to Weather Underground, Alhambra reached 102 °F on Wednesday. The heat should continue Thursday, but decrease on Friday.

For those who need a place to cool off, Alhambra offers a cooling station at Joslyn Adult Recreation Center located on 210 North Chapel Avenue.
