Alhambra high schools take second and third place in county academic decathlon competition

Mark Keppel High School took second place and Alhambra High School took third place in a countywide academic decathlon last Thursday. This means both schools will be progressing to the state championships. The overall top scorer also was a student from Alhambra High School, Shao Yi Qian, a senior, with 8,514 points (out of a possible 10,000). Coach Thomas Riley, of Mark Keppel High School, received coach of the year award. San Gabriel High School placed 32 out of the 45 high schools competing. Keppel and Alhambra High practically tied for second, behind West High School of Torrance.
